  1. The original vinyl album had no liner note, but the Mobile Fidelity CD re-issue (a long-deleted collectors' item: see below!) had the following liner note by John Mendelsohn (): Procol Harum is a commune, a workshop, a whatever, five musicians and one poet-in-residence, who have survived England's pop explosion - an explosion which left in.
  2. Broken Barricades is the fifth studio album by English rock band Procol Harum, released in It was guitarist Robin Trower 's last recording with the group until The Prodigal Stranger (). "Song for a Dreamer" is a tribute to late Jimi Hendrix from Trower, who was stunned by Hendrix's death in September at the age of
  3. Jun 28,  · Robin Trower left Procol Harum a month after the release of this LP, the band’s fifth. A diverse delight, this album features a tighter sound than their earlier work (due, in part, to the departure of organist Matthew Fisher), and both Trower’s guitar work and the Brooker/Reid compositions here find the band at the peak of their creative powers.
  4. This expanded edition of the album has been newly re-mastered and features 36 bonus tracks (32 previously unreleased). They include the complete live concert for WPLJ FM in New York City from April , the entire session for the BBC Radio One show "Sounds of the 70s" from October and a previously unreleased Swedish radio concert in Stockholm, also from October
  5. The results are awesome, as "Broken Barricades" is yet another winner from this great British band (and message to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame: induct these guys NOW!). The album's best-known song, "Simple Sister," remains an all-time Harum favorite, a classic rocker Reviews:
  6. " Broken Barricades was actually quite a short album, with only eight tracks. In the old days with vinyl, you were limited to 40 minutes before you started to lose quality. There were a couple of tracks however, like Simple Sister and Song For A Dreamer, that were quite extensive. But instead of our usual ten songs, we ended up with eight.

  8. Despite the departure of organist Matthew Fisher, Procol Harum survived, and this album is ample proof. Fisher was one of the prime architects of the Harum sound, and his work on such classics as "Shine on Brightly" and, of course, "Whiter Shade of Pale" underline that. Procol continued as a four-piece, and it was indeed a good thing that they decided not to replace Fisher.
  9. For years, Broken Barricades was one of Procol Harum's albums that was completely out of print and if you could find it on CD, it was expensive and the sound quality questionable. Then along came Gary Brooker who re-released it himself on his own label followed shortly thereafter by what appeared to be the definitive reissue on Germany's /5().
